Brush Cleaning

A couple of months ago I got myself really great brushes for the first time and I’m still very happy with them. I’ve chosen Da Vinci because many people recommended them to me. Here I’ve already done a post about which brush I use for which kind of make-up.

To be happy with your brushes for a long time, it’s really important to clean them right. When I got my brushes I also got myself the cleaning soap from Da Vinci. I would still not recommend you to use them for your real hair brushes because if they are soaking wet they will start to smell like animal and even when they’re dry they will still smell! Therefore I use MAC’s cleaning water for my real hair brushes and that works perfect for me.

I do clean all my real hair brushes every 7-10 days with the cleaning water. Therefore I put some water on a double folded Kleenex and stroke with the brush up and down. When doing this you shouldn’t push it too hard because the hair might fall of. Also it’s not necessary to go so hard on powder brushes because the product doesn’t go so deep into the neck of the brush. After that I do stroke the brush over a dry Kleenex to remove all the access water.

My synthetic brushes I do clean every 1-2 weeks still with my cleaning soap. For the synthetic brushes I think the soap is perfect because it gets out all the liquid make-up that really sits in the hair of the brush. You also don’t have to be so gentle with synthetic brushes because they are more robust.

Wet brushes should be dried lying on a Kleenex because otherwise the hair might stick out and the brush might lose its form. The excess water should also not stay in the neck of the brush because then it takes ages till the brushes are dried. The brushes which I solely cleaned with the cleaning water I immediately put back into my little brush glass because they aren’t wet after the cleansing.

I hope you liked my little tutorial!
